Korean Business Card Etiquette
This eLearning course is part of a series of short training courses on Korean business culture and customs.
Tools Used: Articulate Rise 360
Responsibilities: Instructional design, eLearning development
Target Audience: American executives conducting business in South Korea who may be unfamiliar with Korean business culture and customs.
Client: Portfolio Project
Time in Development: One week
Challenge
Americans who will be conducting business in South Korea need to be familiar with the ways in which business customs and etiquette differ from those of the U.S. Korean etiquette for the exchange of business cards is an important facet of Korean business practice, and failing to follow this etiquette can result in impaired business relationships.
Solution
Because the topic requires the learner to both possess knowledge and put it into practice, I developed an eLearning course that includes both informational and practical sections. In this way, learners will feel more confident in their ability to put what they learn into practice in their interactions with their Korean colleagues.
Kahuna Organics Brand Ambassador Training
This eLearning course was designed for an organic hair and skincare company as a means to train brand ambassadors on the products. Brand ambassadors needed to become familiar with the product line and the ingredients used so that they could effectively talk about the products to their clients and thereby increase sales.
Tools Used: Articulate Rise 360, Powerpoint
Responsibilities: Instructional design, eLearning development, technical writing
Target Audience: Kahuna Organics brand ambassadors, who will be promoting the company's products at salons and hair shows.
Client: Kahuna Organics
Time in Development: Three weeks
Challenge
In order to promote product sales and increase revenue, Kahuna Organics brand ambassadors needed to be able to effectively explain the products, their benefits, and how to correctly use them. The CEO was acutely aware that there exist numerous organic hair and skin care products on the market and wanted a way for brand ambassadors to make Kahuna Organics stand out. Because the company is committed to avoiding toxic, harmful ingredients and uses only organic, fair trade, sustainable ingredients, brand ambassadors need to be knowledgable as to why certain ingredients are avoided, as well as how the ingredients used in Kahuna Organics' products are beneficial to health. In addition, brand ambassadors needed to be informed as to how the ingredients work synergistically to promote hair and skin health and achieve the desired results.
Solution
To address the client's objectives, I divided the eLearning course into three main sections. The first section is intended to inform learners of some of the toxic ingredients the company avoids. The second section provides learners with an overview of the beneficial ingredients the company does use. The third section goes into detail describing the products themselves and provides information about how the ingredients work together to promote hair and skin health as well as the desired styling results. Each section includes an interactive component, with the final assessment being a scenario based segment that allows the learner to synthesize what they learned in a real-world context.
Results
Brand ambassadors reported feeling more knowledgeable and confident in promoting Kahuna Organics products to their clients. During the months following brand ambassadors' completion of the training, overall product sales increased by 35%.
Choosing an IRA
This project is an animated tutorial explaining four types of IRAs and how to choose the one that best meets one's needs and circumstances.
Tools Used: Vyond
Responsibilities: Instructional design and development, animation, technical writing
Target Audience: Individuals who are new to investing, want to save for retirement, and are unfamiliar with the different types of IRAs.
Client: Portfolio Project
Time in Development: One week
Challenge
The topic of retirement investing can be complex and confusing. At the same time, saving for retirement is important, and everyone should have access to clear, concise, comprehensible information. In order to make this tutorial effective, it was necessary to take this complicated topic, simplify it, and break it down into manageable chunks that could be understood by someone unfamiliar with the topic. In addition, the topic itself is rather dry, so coming up with a way to make it engaging was also a part of the challenge, which is why I chose to use animation.
Solution
In order to create an informative, interesting tutorial, I decided to use Vyond to create an animated video containing characters who exemplify different individuals' financial goals and circumstances. I created four characters and briefly described each character's employment and financial circumstances. I then led into an explanation of which type of IRA would be best for each character based on his or her circumstances. By keeping explanations brief and using a variety of scenes, I was able to keep it informative and engaging and also avoid cognitive overload for the learner.
